Tip of the Week 1/27

This one’s for those of you who are looking to buy a new guitar – especially an electric.

Something you will notice as you shop around (either online or in stores) is that there seems to be a universal pricing system on guitars, pretty much everyone sells the same model for the same price, unless you want to go on ebay and risk getting a beat up guitar.  You might feel like you have no choice but to buy the sticker price.  Ouch.

Doesn’t anyone know how to haggle anymore?  If you want to beat the system then try this…  Go to a guitar store and find the model you want.  Then, as you’re testing it out, inspect every single nook and cranny for any flaw in the paint or wood.  If you find a chip or even a scratch bring it to the manager and ask if they have another one in stock.  At this point you are hoping that it is the only one they have (this is usually true towards the end of the year because most guitar stores get their yearly shipments in January).  If they dont have another, push for a discount (but with a real big smile so you sound polite :) )

I tried this trick when buying my Schecter C1 +.  They ended up referring me to one of their other store locations where they had a mint condition of the model I wanted AND they took $50 off the original price for the inconvenience.
